Friday’s Favs

I’ve been slacking on the favs for the past few weeks. Not because I forgot about you guys, that would just be crazy – but because my brain wasn’t happy enough to think of things that were great from my week. It’s been a rough couple of weeks over here with struggling with work and the job search but hopefully things are starting to look up. I mean, they must be because I have some great favorites to share, along with a quote that stuck with me. Happy Friday friends, hope you all have a lovely weekend!

“This is the real secret of life: to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it as play” — Alan Watts

Friday’s Favs

This weekend is the last of my summer weekend getaways. Tahoe is gorgeous and I’m so glad we ended with one that was close to home and that wasn’t jammed packed with obligations. Relaxing by the lake in the warm sunshine is the perfect ending to another perfect summer. See you next year have-something-to-do-every-weekend summer, now it’s bring on the pumpkins, turkey and presents (is it Christmas yet?).

Friday’s Favs

Collaborations are so fun and Monday’s Featured Friends was a perfect example of blogging bringing people together! I’m aiming to do one a month with various blogger friends to get some cross pollination going on and if you have ideas or want to collab definitely reach out! In other news – where did this week go? I kind of remember Monday but now all of a sudden it’s Friday?!? I’ve been a busy bee over here I guess, forgetting days, making honey and cross pollinating!

Friday’s Favs

Even though I have no big trips or vacation plans for the summer (just weekend trips) I keep waiting for it to get here. I’m stuck in the mentality that the year starts in September and we will have to go back to school soon so summer only has a short time to arrive and spread her wings before school starts again! But alas, working year round makes that not the case, and living in SF makes it doubly not the case because it’s cloudy and June gloomy outside and summer is a long lost memory. I think I miss the feeling of summer, but we have our first wedding of the season this weekend, and hopefully that will kick it off, and if not that, then the 4th and if not that, then our second wedding (and so on and so forth). I’ve been told patience is a virtue, it’s just not one that I’m familiar with. Are you ready for summer, what are you looking forward to?

Friday’s Favs

Feeling pretty accomplished on this lovely Friday morning. Remember way back when, when I made a resolution to run a half marathon? Well I think this one is actually going to happen! Ran 7 miles this morning with my friend and it was the first time I didn’t want to kill myself during a run, I think that’s improvement!! We have a little over a month until the race, so hopefully 13.1 miles won’t be a killer. What are you accomplishments for the day, or this weekend? My goals for the weekend involve a lot of soccer (see what I did there – USA plays on Sunday) – and thats about it.

Friday’s Favs

Recap of tropical paradise week has come to a close. Sadly the vacation is over now, I thought I could prolong it with posting all of my pictures this week but it’s ‘back to life, back to reality’ now. Hopefully another tropical vacation is in my future, if not it’s starting to get real tropical (and by tropical I mean 70 degrees in San Francisco) here and we are ready for summer!

A Touch of Spring

I am one of those people that decorates for every holiday. I had it growing up and now I do it in my own apartment (pretend grown up remember). I obviously love holidays – and any excuse to celebrate (read: Cinco De Mayo), but when it comes to spring, the holidays are limited. After the Easter eggs and bunnies go away what is there to decorate with until the 4th?

Flowers – the answer is always going to be flowers for springtime. They are colorful and add the perfect amount of decoration without being holiday specific, because lets face it – they are going to be out until the 4th.

I saw some versions of this floral garland on Pinterest so I decided to take a stab at it. I used a mix of dried and silk roses and the combo actually worked out really well. All you need is flowers (fresh, silk or dried), twine/hemp string, hot glue  and scissors.

The process was simple and very customizable. You can use fresh or fake flowers, you can use little objects instead of flowers for different holidays – it’s totally up to you!

I love the finished product, its adds some seasonal decoration that isn’t over the top and it’ll hold me over until July’s festivities. What are you favorite holidays to decorate for?

Friday’s Favs

This week has been about preparation. We are preparing to launch a new product at work, Nate and I are preparing for our trip to Hawaii in a week (more on that to come soon), we are preparing for the crazy summer season that is about to start – it’s all in the planning people. I am a list maker and this week has been about executing and consolidating those lists. Checking things off has been my mission today and I’ve been pretty successful, so now lets get to the fun part – the weekend! Happy Friday Friends!

Friday’s Favs

It feels extra sleepy and tired here today. The cloudy, cold, rainy weather is not helping my sleepy eyes but I am so glad it’s Friday! I was trying to think of one word that described this week for me and in my 5 minute contemplation I came up with ‘gone’ (maybe I need to work on my vocab, I’ll do better next week). This week just felt like it was here the one second and gone the next. Did anyone else feel like that? I think the pace of this city is catching up to me (I’m getting old you guys), so we are heading out to Tahoe this weekend for a nice, cozy, lazy, slow (should I keep going) cabin weekend.

Bon Weekend Friends!

Garden Party

My friend is having a catered birthday lunch party in her backyard in April and asked if I could help decorate. As I am obsessed with Pinterest and anything and everything girly I already had some ideas in mind. When I think backyard I think BBQ, but since this party is being catered, I thought we should go with a fancier garden party vibe.

Screen Shot 2014-03-31 at 2.38.04 PM

Her backyard is a large rectangle with a couple picnic tables, a fire pit and a large garden/grass area. So there is ample room to hang stuff and to decorate tables and chairs. The wooden tables are a great backdrop to any rustic table setting. You can do so much with them, or even leave them bare.

Screen Shot 2014-03-31 at 2.29.10 PM

You can decorate them with fresh fruit, flowers or potted plants. The birthday girl’s roommate makes these amazing succulent art installations, so I’m thinking we make centerpieces out of those.

Screen Shot 2014-03-31 at 1.54.52 PM

I love decorating with ribbons, and these ribboned chairs are so pretty. It’s such a pretty way of adding color and whimsy. The hanging ribbons are perfect for SF weather as there is always a slight breeze for them to flutter in.

Screen Shot 2014-03-31 at 1.40.48 PM

To top it off, the high fence makes for perfect anchors for a string of paper flowers or lanterns.

Screen Shot 2014-03-31 at 2.22.00 PM

Backyard lights wont work in the daylight (as it’s a lunchtime party) but these paper lanterns would have a similar effect.

Have any of you hosted a backyard party, or garden party? What types of special touches did you add?
