Divisadero Art Walk

There are a couple of art walks here in the city and I know the first Friday of every month they have on in Oakland but until last week I had never been to one. I’m usually lazy when it comes to art and I always miss the Divisadero one (even though I can literally walk there) but this time I made an effort to stop in – and by effort I mean my friends were showing art so I had more of a reason.

The concept itself is actually really cool. For about a 5 or 6 block stint on Divis there are open shops with people’s art displayed. My friends had their art showing in a gallery but there were first floors of apartments that were open and some first floor shops that were displaying works as well.

It was a really cool community thing to do in such a little-big city and in such a cool neighborhood. It’s a great spot to meet people and to see some really amazing art (aka. my friend’s art – shameless plug, I think yes). You can check them both out here and here.

For a little night cap we visited the La Urbana garage bar (sounds weird, but it’s cool) and had a couple tacos and brews to celebrate our artist friends. It was a great place to celebrate whenever they both got a text to tell them something had sold!

The Weekender – L.A. Edition

I always forget how much I like L.A. I have this weird image in my head of this giant city with lots of smog and having to drive everywhere (which is true) but I also forget that it’s a charming town with cute neighborhoods and great food. It steals my heart each time I come back and this time was no different.

Our hotel was in Santa Monica and on Friday, after our inaugural beer, we took a stroll down the boardwalk in search of more booze and bites (don’t worry, all the food and al fresco dining will be featured tomorrow).

While strolling, I took a lot of pictures of just the vegetation because it seems to be so much more vibrant in L.A. Flowers everywhere, succulents on each table, vines and grasses in front of all of the houses and palm trees to boot. Those clear skies and sunshine everyday will do that to a city.

Saturday before the wedding we walked to Venice beach for brunch and strolled through the shops and canals on the way back. I must say, the houses on the canals are probably the cutest I have ever seen!  They all have so much character and panache! All unique but fit together perfectly, with the water as a beautiful backdrop.

Gold sugared champagne glasses, a wedding cake that belongs in a magazine and pink and cream sparkles accentuated the room and wedding party perfectly. It was gorgeous, and heartfelt and fit the adorable couple perfectly.

Friday’s Favs – ‘Merica Edition

Happy Fourth of July Friends! ‘We are going to live on! We are going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!’ Name that movie (hint: the name of the movie is in the quote). I’m sure Will Smith would appreciate some Friday’s Favs on this glorious day, and as an end to a very American week. I hope you all are enjoying the stars and stripes, embracing your inner American and that you have a lovely holiday weekend!

Super Bowl Partay

All of a sudden we are hosting a Super Bowl party! I ain’t mad at it, I love planning and hosting (wish it could be my job). But I’m a little underprepared, so I called in the reinforcements (aka my friend Pinterest) and we brainstormed some good ideas for Sunday.

Screen Shot 2014-01-30 at 2.34.59 PM

First you need snacks in the cheesy/greasy/fatty/delicious/miniature varieties and beer (obviously in a genius homemade cooler like your sink) – check!

{spinach and artichoke dip cups – made these last year}

This is about as veggie heavy as we are going to get – it is the Super Bowl after all!

Screen Shot 2014-01-30 at 2.21.23 PM{pizza muffin bites}

Then you need decorations and themed utensils – check!

Lastly, you need a couple good games. I created a pretty cool bingo game, similar to the one below, and we are going to do the betting squares game. We are also going to vote on the best snack at the party, winners will take home a prize (gotta keep it interesting).

Screen Shot 2014-01-30 at 2.47.50 PM

And you’re done – instant, awesome party! What are you all doing for the game, what are your favorite Super Bowl snacks?

Screen Shot 2014-01-30 at 3.05.26 PMPS. This is my 100th post! Before I started this blog I was worried I would run out of things to say, well I guess I haven’t run out yet! Thanks for reading friends!

Recent Happenings

Sorry for my radio silence lately, it’s been a hectic end of November beginning of December! for me, the beginning of October kicks off the holiday season. Decorations come out, costumes get put on, then all of a sudden BAM it’s Christmas! November is nowhere to be seen, but a lot of things happened in this special month.

I made this skillet cookie pie. And it was awesome.

I got invited to an exclusive Pinterest launch party. A week before I received a cryptic email asking if I would be able to attend (of course I said yes, I didn’t care what it was) even though there were no details. The night of, I arrived and stepped into their HQ for their launch party. Get this, the only people invited were ‘super pinners’ and the press. I guess my love for Pinterest shows. They had food and drinks and they did a presentation on their coolest new feature Please Pins (that cool new map feature you have seen in Pinterest).

And I met Ben Silberman, CEO and co-founder of Pinterest. For coming up with, in my opinion, one of the BEST IDEAS EVER, he was so nice and cool to talk to!

My Birthday was also in November. It was an around the world themed party, costumes enforced.

Screen Shot 2013-12-04 at 3.26.24 PM

Our Thanksgiving celebration was extra special this year. It was the second night of Hanukkah, it was Turkey Day (obviously) and it was a family friend’s birthday too! The trifecta of celebrations! The birthday girl’s daughter made this awesome pumpkin pie, displaying all of the celebrations (60 + Turkey + menorah)

How was your November and Thanksgiving? Christmastime has COME!!!

Bated Breath

We have been waiting with bated breath and finally our search is OVER! After almost four months of searching and I don’t even want to think about how many places we looked at – we finally have an apartment!

We are so excited! It has everything we want, our perfect little home – it’s in the right neighborhood, it has a gas stove (I cook too much to deal with electric), it has room for a dining table, back yard space, storage space for our bikes, lots of light (I could keep going) – the only bad thing, and I mean the worst thing about this place it that there is a pink tile in the bathroom – and if that’s the worst I think we can live with that!
