Portable Lenses

Lenses of all types cost a pretty penny. From contact lenses, to glasses lenses to camera lenses, they are all specially made glass or plastic and they don’t come cheap. I love my DSLR and the quality pictures it produces, but you can’t bring it everywhere (or at least I don’t have big enough bags to bring it everywhere, maybe I should fix that…). One thing you can bring everywhere is your phone (because you already do that), and your handy little detachable lenses with it.

I got these lenses a couple of weeks ago and honestly I have only used one of them since then. But I am working on taking them out more (I got a cute little bag to put them in, so hopefully that is reason enough).

And what’s great about them is that they are magnetic so all you have to do is click them on and then when you’re done they pop right off again. If you’ve looked into getting some of these I would definitely recommend it, I got a three pack but I will go into how each looks and you can pick your favorite if you only want to get one.

First up the Fisheye Lense. This lense has a larger curvature to it to give the image that curved, looking-into-a-fishbowl effect.

The second is the Telephoto lens which brings you up close without you having to move. I stood in the same spot here and it magnified the viewing area for me automatically.

The third lense doubles as two lenses in one. You can use it as a wide angle lense or in really close up macro pictures. The Wide Angle Lense opens the frame a little bit more to take in more of the object.

Macro Lenses help you magnify an object that you are already close to. The first image here is just a regular iPhone close up and the second is the macro image. Not too big of a difference but the colors are brighter, the picture is a little clearer and you can see the veins in the flowers.

I think all of these are great options to a big clunky camera and can add a fun twist to some of your photos. What are your favorite lens tricks, do any of you guys have these magnetic lenses for your phones?

Falling into Autumn

This color is the essence of Fall to me. Having grown up on the east coast, autumn has always been my favorite season and even though the colors don’t change as dramatically here as they do back east, I still look forward to Fall. I think my love also stems from school starting up again and from the holiday season being just around the corner.

In my anticipation (I know I don’t look excited, but I promise that duck face displays excitement), I bought this blazer and these booties and now I’ve tumbled down the rabbit hole and pulled out all of my tall boots and scarves. Funny thing is that it’s the warmest time of the year right now in SF so I’m just going to have to wait a little while longer. What are you favorite fall pieces that you can’t wait to pull out?

Happy Labor Day

It’s the first day of September and a holiday – I think it’s going to be a good month! Kicking this month off with a day that celebrates how hard we all work is a great start to the fall season (because it’s going to be Christmas soon right?). Today we are going to ride some roller coasters, have some G-forces applied to our bodies, eat some cotton candy and see a couple marine animals. I hope you all have a lovely relaxing and very fun Labor Day! Take a load off, you deserve it!

Bacon Care of Business

I’m not sure if all of you know this, but Saturday is National Bacon Day (it should be a national holiday) and it’s also my boo’s birthday – which could not be more perfect as his family nickname is boy-who-runs-for-bacon. We are heading to Stinson beach to celebrate his fine 27 years and I am thinking of making some bacon infused snacks. I have a couple of ideas after brainstorming with my good ol’ friend Pinterest, but can’t narrow down my options.

Bacon Bark

Screen Shot 2014-08-28 at 9.18.24 AM

I’m intrigued by the greasy crunch of the bacon and the smooth velvety feel of the dark chocolate. I’m curious to see how that combo plays out.

Caramel Bacon Brownies

These just sound and look too amazing to not try right?

Bacon Pancake Sticks

Screen Shot 2014-08-28 at 9.19.22 AM

Pancake sticks look easy and yummy and I bet with that sweet maple syrup they are fantastic!

Cheddar Bacon Bread

Screen Shot 2014-08-28 at 9.18.33 AM

I mean, what’s not to like about this?

Bacon Cinnamon Rolls

Screen Shot 2014-08-28 at 9.19.16 AM

Cinnamon together with bacon is a combo I haven’t tried or thought to try, but this recipe makes me want to taste this interesting flavor profile.

Bacon Cookies

Screen Shot 2014-08-28 at 9.19.05 AM

This sounds like a mouthful of goodness just waiting to happen. Candied bacon baked right into a cookie, I think they are on to something here…

See why I can’t decide, there are too many good options! I want to make them all! Do you have any favorite bacon recipes that you make for those special bacon lovers in your life?

Numero Uno

Outfit post numero uno my friends (with hopefully mas to come)! Fashion and outfit posts have been on my agenda basically since I started and while I’ve had a couple posts about shoes and skirts and things, I wanted to make them more personal and engaging. And what is more personal than taking pictures of myself and putting them up here for everyone to see? I can only think of one thing – having a blog in the first place, while I have that one down pat, I might as well add the rest. This little bloggie of mine started as a lifestyle blog and is changing and growing everyday, and in true ‘keeping up with the Jones’ style I decided to step it up and step into my first outfit post. I’m kicking this new feature off with a little something I call my summer-dinner-date-night outfit, hope you enjoy!

I decided I’m celebrating America all week, and in the depressing aftermath of yesterday’s loss, I scoured Pinterest for the most patriotic things I could find to share with you – an American round up, if you will.

Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 3.08.48 PM

I love these decorative, but not over the top pendants. You can line the driveway with them or throw them in a vase to display inside.

Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 3.09.11 PM

Simple yet fun nails for the Fourth are hard to come by, but here is a great example. Very classic in their American-ness.

Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 3.10.30 PM

These red and blue handkerchiefs lining the utensil cups add a splash of color and fun to that Fourth of July picnic party or outside BBQ you are having.

Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 3.17.09 PM

I mean, what is more American than a s’more?

Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 3.19.47 PM

My personal patriotism will come in the form of this outfit, to be worn on the Fourth, while doing very American things like drinking cold beer while outside in the mountains and dancing to American music (High Sierra Music Festival this weekend friends).

Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 3.16.21 PM

I am doing a braided crown much like this, hence the gold star bobby pins. What are your plans for the Fourth? Look out tomorrow for an epic red, white and blue snack to impress your guests!

It’s hard to write blog posts when all you do is work and watch soccer. The World Cup is an emotionally draining experience and today all my emotions were sucked from me in the US defeat. I’m not a sports person (you guys already know that) but the World Cup is different. I’m a World Cup person because I’m American and America played today and I got to root for America with my friends from all over the country, and we were rooting for the same thing – the US of A. And I was proud.

We tried and we did our best, and you all know (or maybe you didn’t but you do now) that Tim Howard is a boss. And I think we did what we wanted to do in this World Cup, wake up American and turn them into the idea of us believing in soccer, because I know I believe.

Good thing there is another day this week where we can celebrate being American – phew, I was worried.

Good Ol’ Romp

Let’s talk about rompers, they are back, with avengence. I have long been on the hunt for one (who doesn’t want a comfy one piece shorts-tank combo) and I finally found not one but two that I like.

Screen Shot 2014-06-13 at 4.05.10 PM

I found a casual patterned romper for the everyday (the beach, vacation – I’m a sucker for racerback anything) at Target, of all places.

Screen Shot 2014-06-13 at 4.06.50 PM

And a fancier one that can be dressed up with heels for a night out or paired with cute sandals for a day of shopping (although it would be torturous getting that thing on and off each time you went into the dressing room).

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 10.22.08 AM

I also love this chic floral one, perfect for those summer weddings.

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 10.23.04 AM

Or this strapless version, you can easily pull over a bathing suit on vacation.

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 10.24.57 AM

Rompers are also suitable for work (how versatile these little beauts are). I love this pantsuit version (I guess they call these jumpsuits, but romper is so much more fun to say).

Screen Shot 2014-06-16 at 10.23.39 AM

The options are endless! There are many a good ol’ romp out there, but finding the right one can be tough. My advice is to watch out for the waistline – too high could make the rear look too long and frumpy, too short in the torso could make the shorts too short, no waistline and it could make for a whole lot of no definition (one big shirt with shorts in the bottom). It all depends, thats why you have to try them out! See what is best/comfiest/most flattering on you and take it! And have a good ol’ romp, you deserve it!

The Tony’s inspire a nostalgic mood in me. It stirs up memories from my musician days and renews my love for musicals (not that it needs renewing, my favorite Spotify stations are ‘Wicked’ and ‘Disney’). I played the alto sax from 4th grade all the way to graduation day in high school and strong harmonies and melodies are embedded within my being. I am a ballad girl at heart, I think seeing Cats when I was seven years old solidified that fact (dancing cats, that sing! 7-year-old mind blown) and I’ve been addicted ever since.

Screen Shot 2014-06-09 at 4.53.23 PM

I’ve seen most of the tony-winning musicals from the past 10 years and I never miss a chance to see more (or to re-see ones I’ve already seen). Watching the Tony’s lets me be a nerd for a couple hours, allowing me to get my musical fix. I thought Hugh Jackman did a great job (even though NPH was born to host every year), and as usual the opening number blew my socks off!

Cats is still up there as one of my favs, along with any piece of music Andrew Lloyd Webber has ever touched. And the Tony’s let me see the best acts from the best musicals and plays out there right now – its like one giant trailer for the best Broadway has to offer. Did you guys watch, does anyone else out there have a weird musical addiction?

Pineapple Pieces

My parents have always been obsessed with pineapples, and I guess they are trendsetters because these little tropical fruits are popping up everywhere. Those trendy parents of mine have a pineapple doorknocker, a stenciled pineapple mailbox, a really cool 3D art piece in the shape of a pineapple and pineapple pillows (they are classier than I am making them sound, but you get the gist). They have always been around for me and I love that I am seeing them all over now. I’ve always loved their funky shape and color combination (and their taste, obviously) they make for perfect patterns and pieces (P is a common theme in this post, watch out).

Screen Shot 2014-06-02 at 1.51.31 PM

I would definitely put these in my apartment! The shape gets me, I’m addicted.

I have a confession: I bought this already, that’s how much I love it and why I wanted to share it with you.

Screen Shot 2014-06-02 at 1.52.30 PM

I love these subtle little pineapple studs (they are next on the purchase list).

Screen Shot 2014-06-02 at 1.52.44 PM

You’re addicted now too, huh?
