Fresh Coat of Paint

A fresh coat of paint can go a long way. It can transform the most basic of items into something beautiful. I transformed simple wooden spoons into pastel painted cooking utensils (they even sound fancier with the paint on).

I bought these wooden spoons on sale a long while ago, thinking I would paint them and put them in a pretty jar in the kitchen. It only took me about 6 months to do it even though the project only took 10 minutes to complete and photograph.

A couple weeks ago I bought a few tubes of paint and painted some stripes on canvas for my bedside table (seen here). I recently opened the closet where these tubes are stored and the lightbulb went off. I pulled out those wooden spoons (still in the mesh packaging), the paint tubes and got to work.

I taped all of the spoons where I wanted the paint to end. Then chose the colors I wanted to use (mixing the pink with white for various shades) and went to town. I used acrylic because honestly, it’s what I had and I knew it would soak into the wood nicely. I also used a sponge brush to get that nice even coat.

I stood them in the jar to dry and there you have it, a step up from boring wooden spoons that adds a pop of color to the kitchen! What are you favorite simple craft projects?
