The best thing about our time in Bangkok was that we were only there for 24 hours. The frantic hustle and bustle, the close, crowded streets and the steamy weather – were all things we couldn’t adjust to after coming from Chiang Mai.
We were overwhelmed, to say the least, but what saved us was our hotel.
We knew going into it that we wanted to stay at a nice place for our one night in Bangkok (listen to this song, we could NOT stop singing it while we were there). We chose the Lebua State Tower and it did not disappoint.
After settling in we took the Sky Rail to the giant mall called MBK. No pictures of this because all we did was eat. That night we went back to Lebua, put on our nicest clothes and headed up to the Sky Bar (ps. this is where they filmed part of The Hangover II).
The drinks were delicious (if a tad bit over priced, even in US dollars), the bar changed colors and the view of the city was amazing.
The next day took a ferry to the Grand Palace.
And boy was it grand. The temple is covered in gold tiles, and there are mirrored jewel tone tiled pillars and jade Buddhas – those Thai royals knew what they are doing.
Everything was so intricate and beautiful.
After we visited the Palace we were ready to leave Bangkok. The heat, the crowds, the hecklers – just weren’t for us. The ocean was calling us. We hopped on a quick flight to the beaches and spent the rest of our vacation in paradise.
